The FDA approved a new drug for patients with a rare form of leukemia who were not helped by other treatments. The drug is meant for chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients who have a genetic mutation causing no response to at least one other form of treatment. Manufactured by AbbVie, the new drug Vencelxta, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration on Monday. Venclexta inhibits a protein that supports cancer growth in these patients which helps to avoid killing other cells.
